DFO is an all volunteer organization and is always looking for additional members to fill volunteer roles. Some of those roles are listed below. If none of these meet your skill set and needs, click the Other button and let us know what you would like to do. We are happy to help you find your niche in DFO. There is a place for everyone! Interests - check all that apply Field Trip Leader - Attend training and learn how to lead trips for DFO. Good bird ID skills, a desire to help people learn to bird, and good organizational skills desired. Hawk Watch Volunteer - Observe and record spring hawk migration on Dinosaur Ridge from March 1 - May 10. Ability to hike moderately challenging half mile to the observation site, good eyesight, and ability to endure changing weather conditions is desired.
Grant Reviewer - Read and rank proposals for funding, most of which are received in February. Familiarity with the grant writing process and strong analytical skills desired. Writer and proof reader - Assist the editor of The Lark Bunting newsletter by writing articles and proof reading the writing of others. Strong writing skills and attention to detail are desired.
Social Media Coordinator - Promote DFO by developing posts for Instagram, Facebook, and the CObirds Google group. Experience with social media platforms, good writing skills, and ability to work with deadlines desired. Volunteer Coordinator - Plan an annual volunteer event and work with the board and committees on strategies to recruit, train and retain volunteers for DFO. Experience working with volunteers and good organizational skills desired.
Monthly Programs Assistant - Work with the Monthly Programs Manager to promote monthly programs and help identify potential speakers. Good writing skills and experience with program planning desired. Event Booth Participant - Join fellow DFO members to staff tables at birding and other wildlife events in the metro area. Share your enthusiasm for birds and DFO with table visitors, teach binocular skills to families, spend time visiting other booths and share additional resources available from DFO.
