As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.
Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Any minor attending must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Meet at the informal park n' ride lot just east of the Morrison Phillips 66 clock tower. This is on the NW corner of the
intersection of C-470 and Morrison Road. Take Morrison Road west from C470 and turn right at the first road and then into the lot near the gas station.

Habitats to bird: Aspen, Conifer Forest, Grassland
Let's try something different! On this field trip we will try to "only" use the scientific names (aka "Latin names") of birds (and plants) as we find and call out species. We will also connect with the common names to help us learn what we are talking about - but our challenge will be to stick with the scientific names. So, not "Hey, Western Bluebird!" but rather, "Hey, Sialia mexicana!" You will find it helpful and instructive to be familiar with the scientific nomenclature, as it is interesting and informs our understanding of species' relationships and taxonomy. And it will be a fun challenge! Participants are guaranteed to learn new things! We will find a variety of forest and woodland species, with a chance for American Three-toed Woodpecker, Townsend's Warbler, and maybe lots of bluebirds -- err, make that Picoides dorsalis, Setophaga townsendi, and Sialia sp. We will hike in a loop of about four miles along single track trails on gentle to sometimes moderate gradients, with some rocky patches. Bring good walking shoes, snack and drink. Restroom at the trailhead, and there is the "green door," if needed. We will carpool from the meeting spot. No worries if you are not familiar with the scientific names - this is a chance to learn.
