Trip Registration

As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.

Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Any minor attending must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Logged in users who have a signed Agreement on file will have the opportunity to print or save it at any time. Click on the link to the printable copy and use your browser functions to save or print.

Habitats to bird: Aspen, Conifer Forest, Developed, Oak Woodland, Reservoir, Riparian
We may see Band-tailed Pigeon, White-throated Swift, Canyon Wren, Clark's Nutcracker, Cassin's Finch, hummingbirds, and American Dipper. Clear Creek is famous as the location of the most intense early mining activity during the Colorado Gold Rush of 1859. On January 5, 1859, prospector George A. Jackson discovered placer gold at the present site of Idaho Springs, where Chicago Creek empties into Clear Creek. It was the first substantial gold discovery in Colorado and subsequently Clear Creek provided the route of the Colorado Central Railroad, and later for U.S. Highway 6 and Interstate 70 as they ascend to the Continental Divide. Clear Creek, Colorado's only wild river, flows through Clear Creek Canyon, descending through a long gorge to emerge at the town of Golden, finally ending in the Eastern Plains where it joins the South Platte. Jefferson County has made extensive improvements along Hwy 6 with trails, bridges and plenty of parking and toilets. We now have excellent access to various habitats along the 3000' elevation climb from the foothills to Clear Creek County and Empire. , which is Hwy 6 up the hill and down again. This trip is moderate for the duration and distance (about 80 car miles, round trip), however our walking will be limited to 1.5 to 2 miles, mostly on paths and trails, and there is an uphill dirt trail at one stop. Wear appropriate shoes, hat, and sunscreen, and it is bug season. Leader will have a scope. Bring snacks, water, and lunch. We won't be panning for gold, however we will likely see some folks trying their luck!Birds Plus+ History!
