As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.
Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. Meet at the parking area at 88th Ave and South Platte River Trail. From I-76 take E 88th Ave exit, go west on 88th for 1.6 miles, then turn south at Colorado Blvd. Turn left again into the parking lot for the South Platte River Greenway Trailhead.

Habitats to bird: Developed, Wetland
We'll look for ducks and other fun birds along the South Platte in the area of 88th Avenue. This area attracts impressive numbers of ducks along the river (pintails are often here), and in some nearby reservoirs. The "Developing Birder" designation means newer birders are most welcome and questions, too. We'll make an effort to learn and practice the basic duck ID features and become familiar with identifying the more subtle females. We'll view the river corridor near 88th Avenue, and then we'll drive to where treated wastewater flows in from the Denver sewage facility, attracting many feeding ducks. We'll be watching for raptors, too. Plan for up to two miles of walking all together, mostly on paths and sometimes on uneven ground through grasses. We will drive to reach our different viewing areas. There may be areas of snow, ice or mud. Dress warmly, feel free to bring a scope, and bring water and a snack. There are porta-johns at our meeting place.
