Trip Registration

As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.

Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Any minor attending must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Logged in users who have a signed Agreement on file will have the opportunity to print or save it at any time. Click on the link to the printable copy and use your browser functions to save or print.

Birds Plus+ Ancient Trees. This adventurous hiking and mountain driving trip to visit two amazing groves of ancient pines near Fairplay: the Windy Ridge Bristle Cone Pine Scenic Area near Alma (http://www.gohikecolorado.com/windy-ridge.html), and the limber pine and bristlecone pine grove along the Limber Pine Trail near Fourmile Creek Campground southwest of Fairplay (https://www.mrhi.org/uploads/8/7/8/6/87862106/limber_grove_2-pg_brochure.pdf). [**Note, depending on how the day goes we may only try to visit one of these groves]. We will look for birds as we go, and although they will likely be sparse in these higher elevation areas in late summer we might see Clark's Nutcracker, Red Crossbill, Canada Jay, Townsend's Solitaire, Pine Grosbeak and other high elevation species. These groves have trees over 1,000 years old growing near tree line. Our hikes will be at elevations between 10,500 and 11,800' elevation. Participants should feel comfortable hiking at these elevations in somewhat rough trail conditions. The Windy Ridge hike is two miles round trip with a 350 foot elevation gradient, while the Limber Pine Trail is about 1.5 mile round trip with a 200 foot elevation gradient. Expect rocky trail conditions in some sections. We will carpool and need vehicles with good clearance. An early start will give us a chance to visit both groves before afternoon storms threaten, but we may shorten our trip if weather should develop early. Brink study hiking shoes, layers of clothing, a rain shell, and snacks, drinks and lunch. We will have a few pit stops, and there is the "green door".
