As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.
Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Any minor attending must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
Logged in users who have a signed Agreement on file will have the opportunity to print or save it at any time. Click on the link to the printable copy and use your browser functions to save or print.

Birds Plus+ Nature Journaling and Illustration. This is a continuing Birds Plus+ series where we will practice a growing hobby in DFO - nature journaling. Nature journaling is the practice of recording your observations in nature with illustrations and written content. A more in-depth description and examples of nature journaling can be found here: https://johnmuirlaws.com/nature-journaling-starting-growing/. Join us for a mid-day journaling session at Rocky Mountain Arsenal! We will meet at the Visitor Center and move as a group from there to a wildlife viewing area. The area we will move to will be decided closer to the day of the event to allow for the opportunity to stay flexible and follow the wildlife. We will focus mainly on birds we observe and how they interact with the plants, insects and other elements of their environment, but who's to say you can't squeeze in a sketch of a bison! This field trip will be mostly sedentary but will require more supplies than a normal DFO trip. In addition to your optics, you will need to provide your own journal or drawing paper, drawing or painting supplies, and a lawn chair or something to sit on. We will take a brief stroll to observe the birds around the Arsenal and choose a journaling focus. Once we pick a focus, we will brainstorm drawing compositions, chat about natural history questions that arise from our observations, and talk about drawing techniques that can be used to create our journaling art. I will be providing lose instruction on how to draw birds and landscapes from observation using various art mediums (pencils, paints, etc). Art skills and birding skills of all levels are welcomed! Bring sun protection, insect repellent, and water.
