As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.
Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Any minor attending must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
Logged in users who have a signed Agreement on file will have the opportunity to print or save it at any time. Click on the link to the printable copy and use your browser functions to save or print.

Habitats to bird: Developed
Birds Plus+ Bird-friendly Habitat. This Birds Plus trip will explore DFO member Tina Jones' garden in the Bow Mar area of Littleton. Tina has invested the past 30 years in planting both native and non-native plants that nourish the birds that visit her residence across the seasons. Tina has been involved with both DFO and Denver Audubon for years lecturing and helping with field trips. She has also taught Colorado nature subjects for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and for the Denver Botanic Gardens. Tina has studied Songbirds and Hummingbirds throughout the US . She has a strong background in both Botany and Natural History. While observing her yard as a backyard habitat, she has learned how insects, birds and animals are interwoven. She has seen a notable drop in Songbirds and she hopes other folks can add one plant[annual or perennial] to their yard even if it is an apartment. She loves Hummingbirds and Hawks in particular, but bird and animal behavior are her main loves. Plant and animal Ecology are just some of Tina's interests.
We will walk slowly in Tina's yard, stopping to talk about specific bird loving plants. A list of some of Tina's favorite plants will be given to participants. Bring a notepad in case you want to write information down. Pros and Cons of plants [native and non-native] will be discussed. Plant needs are included. Hopefully we will see Towhees, Tanagers, and Goldfinches. Even though this date is towards the end of Hummingbird migration we will still observe some. We will sit quietly near the bird bath to see birds. Tina wants to emphasize that small yards are great for attracting birds. She has learned a lot about plant needs from her mistakes[which have been her teacher].
WHAT to Bring: a chair that folds up, Hat,sunblock, note pad, water, and snack.
