Trip Registration

As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.

Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Any minor attending must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Logged in users who have a signed Agreement on file will have the opportunity to print or save it at any time. Click on the link to the printable copy and use your browser functions to save or print.

Habitats to bird: Agricultural, Grassland, Riparian

Join us for a day trip to visit Tamarack SWA. Tamarack possesses a diversity of habitats that include sand sage prairie, riparian zones, and agricultural fields. There will be a wide variety of species to be observed on this trip with the possibility to see some excellent migrants and early arriving breeding birds.

In addition to migratory species, Tamarack is home to several typical eastern species. Eastern specialties that are possible to find this time of year include the Northern cardinal, Eastern screech owl, Brown thrasher, Eastern bluebird, and Red-bellied woodpecker. With some excellent luck, it is possible to get all of these in a day!

This trip will also double as an research experience. I, Carly, work for CPW and will be giving a demonstration on Bobwhite quail trapping and tracking via radio telemetry. There is a chance on this trip you will be able to see a Bobwhite in the hand! If not in the hand, we will go and track a covey of Bobwhites that have been given radio collars. Closed toe shoes are needed to participate in this activity. This is a great opportunity to experience and learn about some avian research that is being conducted by CPW.

This trip is given a moderate rating due to the long round-trip drive, and we will be walking upwards of 4 miles with some being off trail. Please plan to bring plenty of water, snacks, lunch, and sun protection. There will be a few restroom stops throught the day, but plan for a possible visit to a tree if you know what I mean. A scope is recommended for this trip as we will be visiting several bodies of water to look for ducks and shore birds. We currently plan to meet at the Barr Lake State Park parking lot that is north of the dam and carpool out to Tamarack from there. Each participant will need a State Wildlife Area pass (or fishing/hunting license) for the trip.

This trip is filled and you will be placed on the waiting list when you register
