As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.
Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Meet at the West Trailhead Parking Lot off Belcher Hill Road (not the overflow parking lot).
From Denver, take I-70 west to CO 58 (Exit 265). Follow this to the end and turn right/north on CO93. Take Golden Gate Canyon Rd on the left after 1.4 miles. In 3.8 turn right onto Crawford Gulch Rd. Make a right onto Belcher Hill Rd (there is a sign for the park).

This trip is limited to the first 14 registrations.
Riparian and Ponderosa birds are to be expected; about 5 miles of walking/hiking with mostly moderate hills, but a few steeper ones. We will be walking the Rawhide trail to the north of the parking lot. We will go through a variety of subtle habitat changes while looking for a few target birds among all the rest. Breeders and/or year-round residents include MacGillivray's Warbler, Virginia's Warbler, Dusky Grouse, and a few other flycatchers, sparrows, and vireos. This is an early start, but for those who want to come earlier, the gate opens an hour before sunrise, so I'll be driving in to the parking lot around 4:30 in the morning. I'll spend about half an hour ahead of that parked in front of the automatic gate listening for owls, nighthawks, and poorwills. If anyone wants to join me, you are welcome. Bring Water, sunscreen, snacks, and all of the various optics. There is mountain bike traffic, so be prepared for that.
