As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. (“DFO”) trip or other activities designated by the Board of Directors, each adult participant and the parent of a minor participant (those under 18 yrs. of age) are required to review and sign (either electronically or manually) a DFO Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement (sometimes “Agreement”) Completing this document involves your acceptance of binding contract terms. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.
Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. Any minor attending must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
Logged in users who have a signed Agreement on file will have the opportunity to print or save it at any time. Click on the link to the printable copy and use your browser functions to save or print.

Join us for a relaxed “leader’s choice” day of birding the Cañon City area in Fremont County. We’ll have a variety of local hotspots to choose from and all in fairly close proximity to one another. Potential locations we’ll visit include Tunnel Drive, Temple Canyon Park, Lakeside Cemetery, Valco Pond, the MacKenzie Avenue brush piles – and we’ll likely add a stop at the Brush Hollow State Wildlife Area on our way back as well.
Some of the birds possible at these locations include migrant waterfowl, Scaled Quail, Curve-billed Thrasher, Juniper Titmouse, Rock and Canyon Wrens, Pinyon Jay, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Canyon Towhee and Rufous-crowned Sparrow. And of course, we’ll hope to find a variety of other resident and early spring migrant species as well!
Some locations will feature roadside birding and others will include short, easy walks. Our visit to Tunnel Drive may include a walk of 1-2 miles on a wide, gravel trail. The trail starts with a short climb (before leveling out), but we'll take our time, stopping as needed. Simple restroom facilities will be available at some sites and we can make stops in town as needed as well. Participants should bring a lunch and water. We will carpool from the designated meeting location on the south side of Colorado Springs. (For those coming from the Denver region there will be a "northern" carpool meeting location at the Lowe's parking lot in Castle Rock at 1360 New Beale St, Castle Rock, 80108 at 6:00 a.m. Kip will communicate with all regarding this, so all participants are aware of who is meeting where and when.) Register online or contact the leader.
