As part of your registration, in order to participate in a Denver Field Ornithologists, Inc. This online registration system allows you to review and electronically sign the Agreement if you do not have one on file. If you would prefer to manually sign a printable version of the Agreement, you may access it here, and present it to the leader before trip start. If you choose this option, please contact your leader to assure you are signed up for the trip.
Please note: Each person, including each family member choosing to sign the Agreement electronically must login and have a separate account so that the agreement is tied to the individual. If you are having difficulty with multiple logins, please contact us for assistance. *Minors: If participant is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must print out, review and sign a paper copy of the Agreement and present it to the leader before the trip start. I am excited to share the beauty of Pueblo & Custer Counties. One may think of Pueblo as semi-arid. However, west of Pueblo is the “Wet Mountains”, in San Isabel National Forest,
This trip will depart from Castle Rock. Stop at Loves Travel Stop, exit 104, to gas up & restrooms. We want a full tank of gas as none will be available til the end of the trip. We will then go to the town of Beulah and on to Pueblo Mountain Park, which is 600 acres adjoining San Isabel National Forest. This beautiful area holds potential for Vireos, Grace’s Warbler, Warblers, Grosbeaks, Flycatchers, Thrushes, Hummingbirds, you get the picture! It is a nesting area for many of these. Studying these birds & songs will be helpful to have even more personal satisfaction on this trip. There will be outhouses & picnic tables for out lunch break. I was looking at the logistics & think it would be super fun to stop at the one man built Bishop’s Castle. Next we will go to Wetmore, CO where we will wander the area looking for Lewis’s Woodpeckers, Band-tailed Pigeons, Grosbeaks, Orioles, & Hummingbirds, etc.
We will proceed along Highway 115 going back to I25 & Lowes. Time allowing, we can stop at Brush Hollow Reservoir. This is about 4.32 hours of combined driving. Please be aware there is a .50 per mile divided by number of miles & participants in the car. Volunteering drivers are welcome. No jeep trails :) It will be around 250 miles.
Walking will be on uneven ground but fairly comfortable generally speaking. The usual personal items, binos, water, hats, suncreen, insect repellant & lunch. 2 way radios will further the trips enjoyment so bring them if you have them.
