About the Trip
Mid-winter on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR's First Creek Trail (Adams Co.) means raptors, from hawks and eagles to falcons. We'll also look for the usual cottonwood-prairie ecosystem birds, overwintering sparrows and songbirds, waterfowl in the creek and perhaps an owl or two. Time permitting, we will also do at least part of the First Creek @ DEN Open Space trail (Denver County) upstream. Expect to walk 3-4 miles on mostly level trail and pavement. Dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. Scopes may be helpful in ID'ing distant hawks and eagles. A reminder: No restrooms or porta-potties at this location. "Go before you go" at the King Soopers off Tower Road in nearby Green Valley Ranch (1.5 miles). Register online or contact the leader.
