Meet Your Trip Leader
Denver City Park (Denver County)
5/26/2019      6:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Leader: Patrick O'Driscoll   patodrisk@gmail.com or 303-885-6955 (cell)
Trail Difficulty: Easy
Directions
Meet at parking strip on north side of Ferril Lake. Directions: Enter park from Colorado Blvd. Northbound turns left onto 22nd Ave. past Museum of Nature & Science; southbound turns right onto 22nd at police station. Go past museum parking until road curves toward zoo. Take immediate left at "To Pavilion Bandstand" sign and go 300 yards down to corner with tall spruce trees, where lake comes into view. Park diagonally on left beneath spruces.

Kick off summer with all three large waterbird species that nest (and hatch young) on the islands in Ferril and Duck lakes. We'll count and observe the cormorants, herons and egrets for DFO's citizen science project -- but we'll also roam the rest of the park for summer arrivals, late spring migrants and other nesters (including hawks and woodpeckers). Dress for the weather (don't forget a hat) and bring water, snacks, and a scope if you have one for closer looks at nesters. We'll walk about 3 miles on flat paths, sidewalks and lawns. Register online, and contact leader with any questions.
