After snow, cold and a dearth of birds canceled our February field trip here, summer returnees and spring migrants should be in abundance. We'll follow meandering Second Creek south from the parking lot/trailhead, checking grassy fields, trees and creekside vegetation for passerines as well as shorebirds and waterfowl. Cattail marshes, prairie dog towns, a pond and an active Red-tailed Hawk nest await upstream. Dress for the weather and bring water, snacks and sun protection. "Go before you go," but trailside restrooms await about halfway through our 3- to 4-mile walk. Register online or contact leader for more information.
