Trail Difficulty: Moderate
From East Denver take 56th Ave east toward Pena Blvd. First Creek parking lot is just before Pena on your left (north). Or take I-70 east to Pena Blvd. Drive north to 56th Ave Exit. Turn left at the light and at the bottom of the off ramp, pass under the highway and turn right, almost immediately, into the First Creek parking lot.
This is the rescheduled First Creek field trip postponed Sept. 1 by the prairie dog plague situation. With fall migration at full blast, we will look for returning winter residents, departing summer birds and others passing through. Expect more raptors (Ferruginous Hawk, Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier), and say hello to first winter songbirds (Townsend's Solitaire, White-crowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco), and last goodbyes to warblers, flycatchers, summer sparrows and Swainson's Hawks. Trip starts in same parking lot as First Creek @ DEN Open Space (which will we also bird after the Arsenal trail). Dress for the weather, bring water and sun protection, and "go before you go" -- no restrooms at this location. (King Soopers at 49th + Tower Road in Green Valley Ranch is convenient < 2 miles away.) Register online or contact the leader.
