Trail Difficulty: Strenuous
Join us to bird Buena Vista, Salida and Leadville areas. Visits to include Buena Vista, St. Elmo, Chalk Cliff Fish Hatchery, Twin Lakes and others depending on where the birds are. Target species will include Fox Sparrow, Calliope and Rufous Hummingbirds, Sapsuckers, Three-Toed Woodpecker, MacGillivray's Warbler and many others. Plan to spend time hiking on moderate to strenuous trails in 2-3 mile blocks at elevations from 8,000 to 10,000 ft. Bring water, lunches, sun screen, sturdy hiking shoes, hat, etc.
This trip is limited to the first 12 registrations.
Meeting Place: (For this trip only) 146 Windwalker Rd. West on Main St from the light to Rodeo Rd (CR 321), left on CR 321 past the cemetery and left on Windwalker Rd. (Summersong Ranch). Stay slightly left at the fork. Tan house is on the left just before the road curves around to the right. Register online or contact the leader.
Plan to arrive in Buena Vista by Friday evening. Please make your own lodging arrangements. We'll be birding a full day on Saturday the 17th and about a 1/2 day on Sunday the 18th. Plan to meet at our location on Windwalker Rd (Wendy's house) at 5:30am if you'd like a bit of continental breakfast and some coffee before wheels up at 6:00 sharp.
